Employment Law

At Copeland Thompson Jeep, we provide individuals and businesses with experienced, cost-effective and sophisticated legal representation in virtually every area in which personnel-related legal issues arise in the business world.

We regularly counsel individuals and business clients, including non-profit organizations,  in employment matters with a view toward preventing unnecessary or unproductive disputes and expensive and time-consuming litigation.  Thus, we are regularly involved in providing advice and training on employment issues such as discipline, discharge and harassment; providing guidance to clients in the development of employee handbooks and personnel policies and procedures designed to prevent employment disputes from developing and resolving disputes in a satisfactory manner when they do arise; drafting effective employment agreements, non-competition, non-solicitation and confidentiality agreements that will withstand judicial scrutiny throughout the United States, negotiating and preparing separation and release agreements, including covenants not to compete; and providing counsel and assistance to employers in complying with federal and state laws and regulations in areas too numerous to mention, such as workers compensation, the Family and Medical Leave Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, drug and polygraph testing, occupational health and safety, plant shutdowns and layoffs under WARN, employer immigration issues and others.

When litigation is required to protect the interests of clients, we are experienced in representing employers before state and federal courts, state and federal administrative agencies and arbitration forums in all types of employment litigation, including the defense of discrimination claims on the basis of age, race, sex, religion, national origin and disability, as well as sexual harassment claims; wage and hour claims under federal and state law; wrongful discharge and other state law claims such as defamation, battery, intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress, fraud, tortious interference, invasion of privacy, whistleblower claims, and negligent hiring and/or supervision; and representing both employers and employees in breach of contract and injunction actions involving employment issues, non-competition, non-solicitation, trade secrets and confidentiality agreements. We are here to serve you!
